I don't really like to get into deep discussions about books I don't like. Someone has put in so much work and it takes a lot of bravery to put your work out there in front of the world.
As my boyfriend would say "well, they took that risk with the understanding that they will be judged and they will be discussed." I do agree with that.
I decided I want to read more Poetry. I used to love poetry as teen and young adult and just fell out of reading the genre with any sense of regularity.
So when I was looking for a collection to get back into it my research led me to Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur.
The reviews were amazing and so on, but there was just about nothing in there for me. If memory serves there were 3 poems that really did move me, a handful that were ok, but the rest of it is just junk. I didn't find much in there beyond what a tween girl writes in her binder when she has a crush, or had just been dumped for the first time.
Even though I feel this is exceedingly low, marketed to the young masses, poetry at the end of the day it is subjective, in the eye of the beholder. My opinion is mine alone and I have more of them in regards to this collection...
Looking through the Goodreads reviews people who expressed they did not enjoy this work were attacked by people accusing them of being racist. "You just don't like it because she is a WOC" What?!
So I will say this, just because someone doesn't like a certain work means they did not connect with it, NOT that are racist!
That is it for this week!
